Added lines 1-37:

after trying sudo apt-get install apache I get this...

zeppo@chico:~$ sudo apt-get install apache [sudo] password for zeppo: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package apache is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package apache has no installation candidate zeppo@chico:~$

Then I tried this

sudo apt-get install apache2

and it took off. Installed a bunch of stuff. Aftere which I type localhost in the browser and get this in the browser window

"It works!"

And when I finally match up the ubuntu IP address with the port forwarding address it works from a computer outside my LAN.

So I Installed Apache, set the port forwarding on the router, set the static IP in Ubuntu and a simple webserver is in place.

Then I copied the scripts from my slackware adventure and since I had forgotten what my zoneedit name and password I can to sort that out. But after putting the correct info the thing worked.

I still need to test it to make sure the hourly testing works.
